The incumbent reports to the Chief of the (FOIA) Freedom of Information and (PA)Privacy Acts Division. The purpose of this position is to review security information for release and declassification or denial in response to requests under the federal access statues.
This position is eligible for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).
Performs analytical and evaluative work. Assures that the intended requirements of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts are accurately and consistently fulfilled.
Conducts legal research on complex issues involving difficult FOIA/PA policy, regulations, procedures and precedent court decisions.
Responds to requests for the disclosure of information, including complex requests under the FOIA.
Processes complex discovery motions and other litigation cases for the production of relevant departmental security records.
Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience conducting legal research on complex issues to include regulations, procedures and court decisions.
Experience responding to legal requests and analyzing requests for disclosure of information.
Experience processing discovery motions and other litigation cases.
There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-12 position.
